We’re very happy to be working with SouthernSpearsSurf in the creation of their E-commerce site, Email Marketing Campaign and design of their social media presence on Myspace, Facebook and Twitter. Because Social Media is very important to SouthernSpearsSurf and that it was very important for them to have a blog included on their E-commerce site we made the executive decision to develop them a Wordpress site using the WP-Ecommerce plugin. Finding a designer can be a tricky, and even a stressful process. Designers are everywhere. Yellow pages, directories and freelance sites just for starters, but any website designer worth their salt is going to have a dedicated website with a comprehensive portfolio for you to browse through. Your first indication of how good your new potential website designer might be is the quality of their website. It’s as important as their portfolio in showing you their capabilities and strengths and it should be very well-designed. If it isn’t then move swiftly on.
As designers we’re often asked about images, where we find our resource images, what the copyright situation is with images on the web and various other questions. There does seem to be some confusion about what images are ok and not ok to use so here is a quick run down of how it all works, and where you should go to find images appropriate to the medium you intend to use them in.
Google image search is great! But not terribly helpful because in searching for images you will be presented with many thousands, the majority of which will be copyrighted to the website where Google found them. Using these copyrighted images is illegal and could land you in a heap of trouble. Luckily there are a great many sites around these days that offer you a cheap, (and sometimes even free) safe to use alternative.
